For the best part of 25 years, teams who win their league finals have received a trophy to recognise their achievement. Cup winners also receive a set of medals, greatly enhancing the customary team photo that we love to see on socials.
As we award a trophy of some kind to half the teams in every social league, we feel we've reached a point where most people in tag have at least one in their possession. Teams who play year-round tell us they have plenty of trophies, and they're running out of people to take their first one home!
At the same time, we're aware of the importance of the iconic winning team photo. We're replacing trophies and the usual medals as our standard prizes, and investing in some unique, high-quality, and fresh prizes that you can use for your team photo and display proudly in the office.
You'll still see some trophies for specific events, but we're phasing out their use for leagues in the very near future. Next week's finals in Rathgar and Clontarf have the honour of being the final leagues scheduled to receive trophies! We'll reveal specific details of our top prizes in the coming weeks. However, you may already have seen that we've introduced a "Player of the Season" award in the form of a pair of rare, custom shorts and tights. These will be awarded on the final night of each league to a male and female player in the venue whose talent and sportsmanship have stood out.
The idea originates with Try Tag Rugby, our colleagues and friends in the UK, who've offered a unique pair of winners shorts & tights for this purpose for a few years. It's a great community-builder, and recognises the sporting and social side of the game.
These shorts will be awarded as of the next finals night in your league - as early as next week in some cases!
