The Irish Tag Rugby Association & Try Tag Rugby are delighted to announce that the 2025 British & Irish Cup will be held at the University of Nottingham on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August.

The University of Nottingham recently hosted the 2024 Touch World Cup, and is well known for its exceptional facilities. Accommodation for players, referees and coaches is available on-site and will be organised in due course.

Each of Men's Open, Senior and Masters, Women's Open, Senior and Masters, Mixed Open and Mixed Senior will play five tests against their equivalent British side with two tests per team played on Saturday and three on Sunday.

Women’s 22s, Men’s 22s and Men’s 50s will each play three tests on Saturday.

Format Changes

Great Britain Tag Rugby and Irish Tag have agreed that all 11 categories should count toward the awarding of the overall British & Irish Cup. However, with so many categories being contested and the standard varying between some of those categories, the decision has been made to adopt a points based system for awarding the British & Irish Cup going forward:

  • All three Opens and all three Seniors categories are worth three points to the nation winning one of the six categories. This is to reflect the standard of play seen in these categories as well as the historical importance of the categories, all of them having been contested since the second British & Irish Cup

  • Both Masters categories are worth two points to the nation winning one of the two categories. This is to reflect that these categories are newer to the tournament but are still playing five tests over two days

  • Women’s and Men’s 22s and Men’s 50s are worth one point to the nation winning one of the three categories. This is to reflect the fact that these are the newest categories to be included in the tournament and that they are only playing three tests on one day

  • This points system will be reviewed after the 2025 tournament in order to ensure it is fit for purpose and provides fair and meaningful competition for all categories

  • The nation with the most competition points at the end of the conclusion of the tournament will be declared the winner of the British & Irish Cup

  • If a category is drawn its points shall be split equally between both nations

  • If the tournament ends with both nations on equal points, the winning nation shall be the one that has won the most three point categories. If the two nations are still level then the winning nation shall be the one that has won the most two point categories and then the most one point categories. If the two nations are still level then the winning nation shall be the one with the superior points difference across all categories.
