FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is tag rugby?
Tag rugby is a non-contact adapted form of rugby league, which has its origins in Australia. It's been played in Ireland since 2000, designed as a mixed, inclusive, social alternative to competitive sports. It's typically played 7-a-side on a pitch similar in size to half a rugby pitch.

You can find details about the laws of tag here, or check out some (very advanced) games on our Youtube channel.

How does it work?
Tag rugby is designed to be social, so the experience is about playing sport while meeting people and making friends. You can sign up for a "Just for Craic" programme, running for 4, 6, 8, or 9 weeks depending on the specific option. You sign up for the full thing, which guarantees you a weekly game.
At the venue, an experienced coordinator will run you through the weekly game - starting slowly, with explanations and beginner-friendly skills drills, and always explaining the tules and how to improve. We'll also organise a number of social afters with venue partners, pubs etc. to help you get to know each other!
When will I hear from you?
The week before it starts, you'll receive an email with a link to your Whatsapp group. There, you'll receive weekly notifications of the start time and social plans, and can let us know if you're available each week.

Can I sign up even if I have no experience, or I'm unfit?
Yes! While plenty of people come to tag having played other sports, just as many people have basically no sporting experience. Don't let a lack of experience put you off !
What equipment do I need?
You need a pair of tag rugby shorts, which can be picked up at tagrugbyshop.com or at your tag venue on the first night. They are durable, and don't need to be replaced seasonally. Apart from that, exercise-friendly clothing is good to have, with a pair of runners or boots with plastic studs. We'll provide the balls, tags, cones and everything you need for the game itself.
